Felt but not as you know it!

Another small sample.  Felted fibres.  Not felted in the conventional way, and no embellisher was used either.  This is another taster.  The technique is simple, and I'm thinking of running a workshop.  What do you think?

More landscapes

Well, the plural is wrong!  In fact there is only one.  But here it is.  Another sample just to whet your appetite.

Another Taster

Here's another collection of rust dyed fabrics that have been combined.  Not yet finished, the hand stitching comes next, it shows some of the texture created by the technique I've used.

Inspired by a bracken and heather landscape the colours are much more subtle in real life than it would appear in this picture.  I'll post the finished piece after Summer School!

Rust Dye - What Now?

Three posts in three days!  Don't worry, I've peaked and time won't allow me to carry on for the rest of the week.

I told you that the silk that was dyed with rust would appear in a different form.  Here is some of it.

Firstly, a colour study:

Next  some preliminary stitching

And finally

It still needs stretching and mounting, but that won't happen tonight.  I'm moving on to something else now, there's a lot to do this week.

Nearly finished!

Well, as promised here are the finished results from yesterday. Washed, but not yet ironed.

This and the next photograph show some of them 'fluttering' on the line!

And here are more detailed pictures of some of the others
As I said, these still need ironing, but the marks are quite effective. You too could do this! Why not book a workshop?

There are some silk bits too, but they will appear in a different form soon. Watch this space.....

A Hard Day at Work

Sometimes it's really hard to go to work! Fancy having to meet people you like and do things that you love doing. It's such a chore, and yes, we had a day like that today.......

Up early and a trip along the M25 came first. We travelled the north section on our way to Chelmsford, to the branch of the Embroiderers' Guild where they were waiting for a lesson in Dyeing with Rust. Oh what fun!

We used things like these

But first I made them clean them up!

Some of them really got down to it!

And then we coloured the fabric..... They are going to try to keep it for a while longer before revealing the marks made. Do you think they will succeed?
I'll post some pictures of my samples tomorrow, in the meantime you can catch up with some previous ones here.
(And the return journey was along the south section of the M25 - not much fun today!)
